Tomorrow is Saturday, we all know, Saturday is a rugby day, so first we have the NU Women’s Rugby Club playing host in their final match of the Fall season, 10am Canisius.
The NU Men’s Rugby Club, ends their disappointing Fall season at SUNY Geneseo 4-2, 1pm start.
Last weekend, the boys hosted Suny Oswego 5-1, in their annual night game, first half, as usual, the boys did well, scoring first, when Evan Buckeye Castellani, put NU on the board 5-0, you can picture him from about the 22 meter line, running right into the first would be tackler, then side swiping a few others, until, he was dragging 4/5 opponents, then simply put it down. Oswego hit a penalty kick, making it 5-3 after 10 minutes. The home crowd was in their seats by now, and we were able to score again after a multiple phase, ball in hand, build up, our #6 Danny Wha, hustled in a score, and the subsequent 2 point conversion was good by Matt Coles, 12-3, 15 minutes in.
Oswego, seemed to wake up, scoring a try and converting, making it 12-10, with a dozen minutes remaining till half time. NU kicked off, did not get ball back, and gave another score, making it 17-12 at half, with our opponents ahead. Then the wheels came off and Oswego scored at will, on kicks, on phases, and mostly on turnovers, Warren Solomon was able to score in the midst of all the other scores, and we lost 58-17 in the end. Running touch judge at my age, usually is not a big deal, but, with all those scores, I was in a track meet, fun to be involved, and after this dreadful season is over, the boys can focus on recruiting and fitness, the rugby will come in the Spring. Both are out of playoff contention.
Good luck, to both clubs, get there if you are able, and thanks to all for their efforts
